Cooling Time Calculator

Estimate cooling time from wall thickness, melt, mold and ejection temperature using the one-dimensional heat conduction solution. Free and no sign-up required; you can switch to the other 14 tools from the tabs above.

Thermal diffusivity0.070 mm²/s
Estimated cooling time3.4 s
Cooling time rises with the square of the wall thickness: 25% more thickness makes the time roughly 56% longer. The result is a guide value; the cooling channel layout and the flow rate change the real figure.

These calculations produce guide values; the final selection has to be based on the part geometry, the mold design and the data from the material manufacturer. For an assessment specific to your application, contact our technical support team.

How is this calculated?

The calculation is based on the one-dimensional heat conduction solution and takes the thickest section of the part as its reference. Because the heat is conducted through the thickness, the time rises with the square of the wall: 25% more wall thickness means roughly 56% longer cooling — reducing thick sections is the most effective way to shorten a cycle.

The result is a guide value: the real time depends on the position of the cooling channels, the flow rate and the mold material. If the channel layout is inadequate, the actual time ends up well above the calculated one.

The method, the formula and the limits of each tool are explained directly underneath it, and the explanation changes with the tab you select. The results are engineering guide values; for an assessment specific to your application when choosing the final machine and equipment, contact our technical team.
