What a mold temperature control unit does
The unit does not only heat the mold; it works in both directions. During filling and holding it supplies heat to the mold, and during solidification it removes the heat coming from the melt. What establishes this balance determines both the cycle time and the part quality at the same time.
If the mold is too cold, short shots, more visible weld lines and increased internal stress appear. If it is too hot, the cycle lengthens and a risk of sink marks arises. If there is a temperature difference between the mold halves, the part warps toward the cold side.
Water or oil
The practical rule: prefer water up to 160 °C. The heat transfer coefficient of water is clearly higher than that of oil — it reacts faster to changes in mold temperature, and the system is more economical and cleaner. Oil is only needed at temperatures that water cannot reach safely (high-temperature engineering plastics such as PEEK, PPS and PEI).
The distinguishing feature: communication with the machine
The strongest side of RUMMEL units is that they can talk to the injection molding machine and the line automation: OPC-UA, Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet and analog 4-20 mA interfaces are supported.
In practice this means: when the recipe changes, the mold temperature is set automatically, deviations are recorded, and the operator does not have to intervene on the unit separately. With multi-circuit distributors, a single unit can monitor several cooling circuits in the mold individually.
