Cost per Part Calculator

Cost per molded part from material, machine hourly rate, mold depreciation and scrap rate — you enter the prices, so the result never goes stale. Free and no sign-up required; you can switch to the other 14 tools from the tabs above.

You enter the prices — the unit values for material, electricity and labor are not stored, so the calculation never goes stale. The currency does not matter; just use the same one in every field.

Read the shares: if the material share is high, go after runner waste, regrind use and the masterbatch dosing ratio. If the machine share is high, cycle time and energy consumption come first. If the scrap load stands out, reduce that before anything else — it wastes both material and time.

These calculations produce guide values; the final selection has to be based on the part geometry, the mold design and the data from the material manufacturer. For an assessment specific to your application, contact our technical support team.

How is this calculated?

The cost per part is made up of four items: material (runner included), the share of the machine hourly rate per cycle, mold depreciation and the scrap correction. You can enter the machine hourly rate directly, or have it calculated from the electricity, labor and depreciation items.

Scrap correction: Cost / (1 - Scrap rate)

The cost of scrap is not only the wasted material — a scrap part has consumed all of the machine time and energy and still cannot be sold. Read the item shares: if the material share is high, dosing is the real lever; if the machine share is high, cycle time is.

The method, the formula and the limits of each tool are explained directly underneath it, and the explanation changes with the tab you select. The results are engineering guide values; for an assessment specific to your application when choosing the final machine and equipment, contact our technical team.
