The RDL is a modular compressed air dryer for medium and large material throughputs. The hopper size goes up to 1,000 liters. The manufacturer's brochure gives the material capacity as 24 – 200 kg/h; the general product portfolio, however, speaks of a range of 30 – 500 kg/h. The exact capacity is determined at the quotation stage according to the hopper configuration and the air source.
Three air sources
The RDL can take pre-dried compressed air for drying from three sources: from the customer's compressed air system, from an integrated compressor, or from the exhaust air of an injection stretch blow molding machine.
RDL-R: drying with the blow molding machine's waste air
The compressed air used to blow the bottles on an injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) machine is of high quality and has a very low dew point (−68 °C according to the manufacturer). This air is normally released to the atmosphere. The RDL-R collects this dry exhaust air and uses it for drying material. The manufacturer states cost savings of up to 80% compared with conventional desiccant drying systems. It is a natural match for plants producing PET preforms and bottles.
RDL-C: recovering compressor heat
The RDL-C takes its compressed air from an internal compressor. According to the manufacturer, up to 70% of the energy spent producing compressed air is recovered as heat and used to preheat the material. If required, a larger compressor can be chosen so that the compressed air needs of one or more production machines are also met.
