Conveyor Belt Magnetic Separators

Conveyor belt separators remove metal particles from bulk flows carried on belts. They are usually positioned above the belt (overband / suspended belt magnet) or integrated into the system (head-pull or drum magnet). Thanks to their continuous operation they are ideal for heavy industrial applications such as recycling, mining, cement and bulk chemicals.

The particular challenge of flow on a belt

What sets belt separators apart is scale: tons of material per hour travel on an open belt as a thick layer. For the magnet to reach a particle in the bottom layer, it has to produce a deeply penetrating field. That is why these separators are physically larger than the others.

Three mounting types

• Overband (suspended belt magnet) — suspended above the belt, it throws the metal it catches to the side with its own belt; discharge is automatic
• Head-pull (head pulley) — the pulley at the discharge end of the conveyor is magnetic; it needs no extra space
• Drum — a rotating drum placed at the discharge point; it provides continuous separation at high capacity

Positioning determines the capture rate

The most effective point is where the material is spread most thinly; this is usually the discharge end. As the layer thickens, the capture rate falls. Adjustable suspension height is an important feature in practice, because it allows fine-tuning on site.

Where it is used

Recycling, mining, cement, bulk chemicals and refuse-derived fuel production. In these lines metal threatens not only product quality but the life of the downstream equipment; a bolt entering a crusher can cause a stoppage lasting days.

For closed pipelines a pressure line separator is suitable.
