Pressure line separators are used in the closed pipelines of liquid/paste products such as sauces, oils, coatings or chemical suspensions. The magnets sit in a smooth, polished 316 stainless steel pipe structure that withstands high pressure and temperature. They are CIP (clean-in-place) compatible and meet the strict hygiene requirements of the food/pharmaceutical sectors.
What sets the pressure line separator apart from the others is that the product moves under pump pressure. The housing must both withstand the line pressure and be fully sealed. The magnet rods are positioned inside a smooth, polished 316 stainless pipe; besides hygiene, the polished surface also reduces flow resistance.
With thick products the biggest risk is the formation of corners inside the housing where the product stands still. In these zones the material stays, spoils and gets mixed into the next batch. The main purpose of CIP-compatible designs is to eliminate these dead zones.
CIP (clean-in-place) is washing the line by circulating a cleaning solution without dismantling it. It is standard practice in food and pharmaceutical production because it shortens downtime. For a separator to be CIP compatible means that its seals withstand the cleaning chemicals and that its internal geometry does not obstruct the washing flow.
Line diameter and throughput, operating pressure, temperature, product viscosity and cleaning method are decisive. The rod spacing is set according to viscosity: with a thick product, narrow spacing blocks the line. The magnet type, in turn, is chosen according to the smallest particle size to be caught.
For lines flowing by gravity, free-fall separators are used.
