MTR 3-Position Swing Cylinders

Machine tables and moving slides can be equipped with double-acting three-position cylinders. The clamping arm retracts completely and disappears beneath the work table, so the mold surface is left completely free for loading and unloading. On new presses this clamp is used to clamp the press table automatically when there is no clamping fixture on it. Using inductive sensors, signals can be obtained that show whether the clamping arm is below the surface or clamping the mold.

The arm hides completely

The distinguishing feature of the MTR series is that the clamping arm can be retracted completely under the table. When the arm is retracted the work table is left entirely free; the mold moves unobstructed on its rails and nothing snags during loading and unloading.

Three positions, four oil ports

The cylinder works with four separate hydraulic ports, each of which manages one movement: extend, swing, clamp, retract. This separation allows the order of movements to be controlled — the arm first extends, then swings, then clamps. Because a movement in the wrong order can damage the mold or the arm, the sequence is defined in the hydraulic circuit.

Position verification

The two proximity switches report whether the arm is really in the expected position. Without that feedback the machine could start the cycle while the arm has not fully clamped. For safety, connecting these sensors to the press is essential.

Where it is used

Machine tables and moving slides. Especially in layouts where the mold is loaded by sliding it horizontally, a fixed clamp forms a physical obstacle; the MTR solves that problem.
