Mold and Temperature Control
Mold tilting is the operation of safely turning a mold from the vertical to the horizontal position, or the reverse, for maintenance and cleaning; in the industry, turning, rotating and flipping describe the same operation. Traditional tilting with a crane and blocks carries the risk of crushing, slipping and damage to the mold surface; an electric or hydraulic tilting unit performs the operation with a controlled 90° rotation.
Capacity is selected not on the weight on the mold card but on the real weight that will be placed on the platform, including heaters, cables and the hot runner block. It is chosen for the heaviest mold with a 20% margin; the platform size and center of gravity are also checked.
The safe chain in the workshop is transport cart → tilting unit → mold splitter → inspection table. Each link shortens the time the mold spends hanging from the crane hook.
Electric units need no hydraulic power unit, carry no risk of oil leaks and provide a controlled speed; at very high tonnages a hydraulic design may still be economical.
