DFS Series

The DFS series are high-speed injection molding machines designed for thin-wall products and in-mold labeling (IML) applications. There are four models between 310 and 650 Tons.

Why thin walls need a special machine

In a thin-walled part the melt runs the risk of solidifying before it has filled the mold. As the wall gets thinner the flow resistance rises rapidly and the cooling time shortens; for the material to reach the furthest point of the mold, a very high injection speed is needed. A standard machine cannot produce that speed and the part comes out short.

The DFS series is therefore built around high injection speed and a fast pressure build-up. It is the core machine for bucket, container and lid production in the packaging sector.

Cycle time and capacity

In thin-wall production the cooling time is already short; in that case the other components of the cycle — mold opening and closing, ejection and plasticizing — become decisive. In high-volume packaging production even a tenth of a second shows up in the annual capacity. The subject is covered in the cycle time article.

Choosing within the series

You can reach all the models from the drop-down list. The tonnage is calculated from the projected area of the part; because the cavity pressure required on thin-walled parts is high, the tonnage can come out larger than expected. For the calculation you can use the tonnage tool.

For work other than thin walls, the high-speed equipment of the DFS is more than is needed; the other series may be more suitable.

The line as a whole

In thin-wall packaging production the machine alone is not enough: it requires a short cycle, fast part removal and robot integration. On the raw material side, steady feeding is critical — interrupted feeding translates directly into shot weight fluctuation in a short cycle. Central feeding systems cover that side.
