The Ferlin EasyDry FED-HT series are dry air (desiccant) dehumidifiers in a high temperature (High Temperature) execution. With honeycomb rotor technology they lower the dew point of the air to levels reaching –40 °C, and by raising the process temperature to the 50–170 °C range they suit engineering plastics that have to be dried at high temperature.
Why is dry air drying necessary? Hot air dryers remove only the moisture on the surface of the raw material; they are inadequate for hygroscopic (moisture absorbing) plastics. Dry air (desiccant) dryers remove the internal moisture of the granulate as well. High performance engineering plastics such as nylon (PA66), polycarbonate (PC), PPS, PEEK, PEI (Ultem), PSU, PES, PPA and LCP require drying in the 120–170 °C range; with insufficient drying, bubbles, silver streaks, brittleness and dimensional deviation occur.
The machine is managed through a touch-screen HMI; it offers recipe selection, RCE (anti-stress), a 3-step energy saving mode and weekly calendar functions. Overheating protection with the ATR142 safety thermoregulator, remote monitoring with FerlinBridge/NEBULA and integration of the MOVAC Easy hopper loader are available.
