The ECA series single-acting hydraulic quick die change (QDC) clamping cylinders are designed for clamping molds and workpieces quickly, safely and easily on vertical presses. Moved manually on T-slotted tables, ECA clamps are also suitable for non-standard mold backplates. Four clamps are applied to the moving table and the other four to the fixed table.
The ECA series are single-acting hydraulic cylinders: hydraulic pressure is applied in the clamping direction, and a spring or an external force takes over in the releasing direction. They require a simpler hydraulic circuit than double-acting cylinders; the number of connections falls and installation becomes easier.
On vertical presses the mold weight acts directly downward, and the clamping element has to take that load safely. ECA cylinders are designed for this geometry; their compact bodies take up little room on the platen.
One of the practical advantages of the ECA is that it can accommodate different backplate thicknesses. It is relatively easy to add to an existing machine afterwards; for that reason it is often chosen as the first step in moving to a mold clamping system.
The MHC series can also adapt to non-flat surfaces and offers a wider force band in the 40–250 kN range. The ECA, on the other hand, is a simpler and more economical solution. If your mold backplates are true and standard the ECA is sufficient; where there are irregular surfaces the MHC should be considered.
The series models and force values are in the table in the lower section of the page.
