They consist of rotors and stators with integrated permanent magnets; they are the core of electric drives and servo motors. Precise magnet placement and balancing provide optimum torque with minimum vibration. For automotive, robotics and industrial automation.
In permanent magnet motors, torque arises from the interaction between the field produced by the coils in the stator and the magnets in the rotor. For this reason the efficiency, power and vibration behavior of the motor depend to a large extent on what material the magnets are made of, in what geometry and how precisely they are positioned.
Even a positional difference of a few hundredths of a millimeter between the magnets in the rotor spoils the symmetry of the field. The result is torque ripple and vibration during rotation. Vibration is not just noise; it means shorter bearing life. That is why assemblies are produced balanced and the magnets are fixed permanently.
The temperature inside a motor rises faster than expected under load. A standard neodymium grade can suffer a permanent loss of strength at this temperature; that is why high-temperature grades, or in critical cases SmCo, are used in motor applications. A wrong grade choice shows up as a motor that runs normally in the first months and loses torque over time — a fault that is hard to diagnose.
Servo motors, automotive drive and auxiliary systems, robotic joint drives, pump and fan motors. On the injection side, all the movements of all-electric machines are made with motors of this type; the absence of hydraulic oil and the high precision come from here.
For a correct assembly design, the operating temperature, target torque, speed range and mounting geometry must be clarified from the outset. The real temperature under load is especially critical; a material choice made on the nominal value comes back in the field as a loss of torque over time.
