Connector with Seal Protection

At Michel Tube, pipe connectors is the name given to all clamp connections with a sealing gasket used in the vacuum area, that is in suction (pneumatic) conveying.

Seal protection (Dichtungsschutz), also called the "inliner", is increasingly used where no residue from the gasket may mix into the conveyed material. This is extremely important in the medical sector within the plastics industry in particular.

The stainless steel strip inner lining is positioned/mounted exactly in the middle of the pipe connector; it thus forms a protective layer between the gasket and the tube gap (Rohrspalt) that can always occur.

Available in 16 different diameters (Ø 38.0 – Ø 114.3 mm).

Protecting the gasket from the flow

In a standard connector the gasket leaves a small gap in the tube inside diameter, and as the granulate flows it rubs against the edge of the gasket. Over time the gasket wears, its cross-section thins and it begins to leak. Seal protection (Dichtungsschutz), also called the inliner, prevents this contact.

How it works

The inliner is a sleeve that lines the transition between the two tube ends from the inside. The flow never sees the gasket; the granulate advances along an uninterrupted, smooth inner surface. This brings two benefits: gasket life is extended and, because no step is left on the inner surface, no build-up and wear point forms.

Where the gain becomes clear

• Abrasive raw material — with glass fiber granulate, gasket life becomes very short without an inliner
• High flow lines — the friction load rises linearly
• Hard-to-reach routes — on ceiling and roof lines a gasket change is costly; extending its life is a direct labor saving

The decision criterion

A connector with an inliner is more expensive than the standard one. The decision is made by looking at the gasket change frequency: on a line where the gasket is changed more than once a year, the inliner pays for itself in a short time.
