TEMP 140 WIC TS is the master model of the mold temperature control unit series that works up to 140 °C with pressurized water technology. From the drop-down list you can reach the TEMP, TEMP-XL and TEMP-XXL body options and the 150 °C versions.
Why pressurized water is needed
Water boils at 100 °C at atmospheric pressure. For a higher mold temperature the circuit has to be kept under pressure; as the pressure rises, the boiling point of water rises too. The WIC series works in the 140 °C band on this principle and continues to use, at this temperature too, the heat transfer coefficient of water, which is superior to that of oil.
The advantage of using water instead of oil
An oil-based unit could also work at the same temperature, but water responds faster, is more economical and is far easier to clean up in the event of a leak. Not moving to oil unless necessary is the right approach; up to 160 °C water should be preferred.
Choosing a model
Heater power, pump flow and tank volume are determined by the thermal mass of the mold and the number of circuits. In pressurized systems the tightness of the circuit and the safety equipment also become important.
For a lower temperature the 90 °C series, and for a higher one the 160 °C or the oil-based series, are considered.
