All-Electric Injection Molding Machine

Injection Molding Machine

Definition

In an all-electric injection molding machine, all of the clamping, injection, plasticizing and ejector movements are driven directly by servo motors; there is no hydraulic oil. Position repeatability is high, response time is short and energy efficiency is markedly better than that of hydraulic machines. It is preferred in medical, optical, electronics and clean room production.

Why it matters

The absence of hydraulic oil is not only a matter of cleanliness: as the oil temperature changes, its viscosity changes, and this leads to setting drift on a hydraulic machine between morning and midday. With electric drive this variable does not exist; the machine's behavior does not change as it warms up.

The price is the investment cost and force density at large tonnages. For very large clamping forces, hydraulic or hybrid designs still hold the economic limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does an all-electric machine need oil cooling?

No. Because there is no hydraulic circuit, there is no oil cooler (chiller) load; mold cooling is planned separately.
