Stäubli Multi-Coupling Cable

Stäubli multi-coupling cables allow several circuits to be connected in a single movement. Instead of plugging in each cable separately, all the connections are made through a single coupling.

2-way and 4-way versions are available. On multi-circuit molds and on lines with frequent mold changes it markedly shortens setup time; it removes the risk of connecting the wrong circuit.

It can be used together with adapter boxes to make sockets of different standards compatible.

Reducing the number of connections to a single movement

A multi-zone mold has dozens of heater and thermocouple connections. Plugging them in one by one takes time and carries a risk of error. The Stäubli multi-coupling brings all the circuits together in a single body; at a mold change it is connected and released in a single movement.

The effect on mold change time

A significant part of the time spent on a mold change goes not on the mechanical clamping but on the peripheral connections: water lines, hydraulics, electrics. The multi-coupling reduces one of these items to almost zero. Used together with quick mold clamping systems, the total gain becomes marked; the subject is covered in the mold change time article.

The risk of a wrong connection disappears

With cables connected one by one it is possible to plug a socket into the wrong receptacle; the result is the wrong zone being heated or the temperature being read incorrectly. Because the multi-coupling can geometrically be plugged in only one way, the possibility of this error disappears.

Construction and selection

2-way and 4-way options are available. The choice is made according to the number of circuits in the mold and the connection structure of the control unit. It is important to keep the coupling surfaces clean; dust and oil in the mold shop environment raise the contact resistance.
