Hose Coding

Michel Tube's hose coding is offered in defined color shades in which pipe connectors and/or hoses are also available. Ring coding (Ring Codierung) is a ring that is slipped over the hose and slides by gravity towards the hose coupling.

At a hose change the ring drops off and is not thrown away with the worn hose. Ring coding offers a simple and economical way of marking lines and coupling points in color. Machines are thus marked and a wrong coupling connection is made more difficult.

10 different colors are available: Blue, Yellow, Grey, Green, Natural (Natur), Orange, Red, Black, Purple, White. Available in 3 different diameters (Ø 57.0 / 66.0 / 76.0 mm).

The practical logic of ring coding

Hose coding is a colored ring slipped over the hose. It settles by gravity onto the hose coupling and stays at the operator's eye level. Its difference from the fixed coding on the pipe end is that it moves with the hose; when the hose is connected to another point, the coding goes with it.

Using it together with pipe coding

The most reliable system is the arrangement where the two are used together: the pipe end shows which machine it goes to, and the hose ring shows which raw material it carries. The operator matches the two colors; the correctness of the connection is verified at a single glance.

Application notes

• The ring must stay close to the coupling end of the hose; a ring left in the middle is not seen
• The color set must be chosen on the same shade scale as the pipe connectors and hoses — close shades coming from different suppliers cause confusion
• Worn and faded rings must be replaced; a faded color is an invitation to a wrong match

When it is not enough

If the number of lines is very high, color separation alone may fall short; in that case numbering or an automatic coupling station should be considered. At automatic stations the correctness of the connection is verified by the system and operator error disappears.
