Stainless Steel Pipe Coupling

In environments exposed to outdoor weather conditions or in the food sector, Michel Tube's stainless steel pipe couplings are very often preferred. On stainless steel couplings a white, food-grade gasket is used as standard; the outer and inner body and the bolts are also made of stainless steel. On special request, special requirements and materials can also be taken into account.

The difference between a coupling and a connector

Both join tubes, but they are used in different places. Connectors are used on the vacuum side, on fixed lines that are not taken apart often. Couplings, on the other hand, serve on pressure lines and silo connections, under a higher mechanical load.

Why stainless steel is needed

A stainless coupling is preferred in two situations. The first is outdoors: silo connections, roof penetrations and open-air lines are exposed to rain and moisture; galvanized coating deteriorates over time, stainless steel does not. The second is food production: stainless couplings use a white, food-grade gasket as standard, and the surface withstands cleaning chemicals.

Watch the tensile load

Couplings have only a sealing function; they are not designed to carry the tube mechanically. At points where there are pressure surges or where the tubes' weight has to be carried, a tension relief element must be added. When this distinction is overlooked, the coupling separates over time and the line opens.
