Tension Relief Elements

We recommend the use of tension relief elements (Zugentlastung) for pressure surges or to mechanically stabilize and support the tubes. Because pipe couplings have only a sealing function, we generally recommend using tension relief elements to secure the tubes in addition.

A tension relief element consists of special half shells (Halbschalen); these shells are joined to one another by a load distribution member (Lastverteilungsglied).

Length options: 150 / 200 mm. Available in 23 different diameters (Ø 38.0 – Ø 200.0 mm).

Why a coupling alone is not enough

This is the point most often skipped in line installation. A pipe coupling provides only sealing; it does not hold the tube against tensile force. When a pressure surge arrives or the tube hangs by its own weight, the coupling slides slowly. The result shows months later: the line separates at a point, or a gap opens at the connection and false air enters.

Where the tensile load comes from

• Pressure surges — sudden forces that arise as the line switches on and off
• Tube weight — especially on vertical and inclined routes
• Thermal expansion — on long lines, temperature change lengthens and shortens the tube
• Vibration — constant strain from pumps and machines

Where it is placed

The connection points of vertical lines, certain intervals along long straight runs, pump and filter outlets, silo connections. As a rule, the tube cannot load its own weight onto the coupling; the load has to be transferred either to a suspension or to a tension relief element.

It must be considered together with the installation

The tension relief element forms a whole together with the mounting rails and clamps. The fixing points should be planned from the start when the line is designed; adding them later usually means dismantling the line.
