The electro-permanent magnetic clamping system Pressmag SP raises efficiency by offering flexible clamping to injection molders who cannot standardize their molds.
The latest generation Pressmag SP magnetic clamping system is ideal for use on large capacity injection molding machines. EAS SP clamping systems require no mold standardization; nor do they need electrical power to hold the clamping force.
Key Points: • Greater clamping forces • Thinner plates • Flexible adaptation to holes — more clamping force • Maximum number of mounting screws — zero risk of an air gap • Standard temperature range up to 150°C
Advantages: • No bending in the magnetic plate • Resin sealing or metal-to-metal surface option • Small poles provide more force
The biggest advantage of magnetic clamping is that it needs no mold-specific preparation. For a molder who has not been able to standardize their molds, this is decisive: different backplate thicknesses, different hole patterns and different sizes can be clamped on the same plate. Where a hydraulic clamp requires the clamping points to be planned for every mold, the magnetic plate holds from the whole surface.
The SP series can work up to 150 °C. In applications producing with hot molds this limit is critical; standard magnetic plates begin to lose their magnetic properties at this temperature. What is more, thanks to the thin plate and small pole design a higher force per unit area is obtained, and the plate flexes slightly around the holes to conform to the surface.
No power is needed to hold the force. The magnetization is established once; energy is used only at the moment of clamping and releasing. In a power failure the mold does not move — in terms of safety, this is an important difference from hydraulic systems.
FP stands apart with its waterproof contact surface and continuous force monitoring, and LP with its replaceable pole design. The choice is made according to temperature and mold variety.
