TEMP 160 WIC TS is the model that works at the upper limit of water-based temperature control. 160 °C is the highest mold temperature that can practically be reached with pressurized water technology; above this point it is necessary to move to oil-based systems.
In most plants the choice between water and oil is made by looking at the target mold temperature. The 160 °C limit is the last point at which you can keep the advantages water provides — a higher heat transfer coefficient, faster response, lower cost and easy maintenance. That is why, in applications in the 150–160 °C band, it is recommended to consider this model before moving to oil.
Engineering plastics that require high crystallinity and some glass fiber grades work in this range. Raising the mold temperature improves surface quality and dimensional stability; in return it lengthens the cooling time — the balance calculation is covered in the cycle time article.
In pressurized systems working at high temperature, the sealing elements and the safety equipment require periodic checks. The quality of the circuit water also directly affects the service life because of scaling.
For a higher temperature you can look at the 200 °C and 300 °C oil-based series.
