Digicolor IMD All-Metal Detector System

IMD is a protection system that detects every kind of metal coming into the granulator. Not only ferromagnetic metals but all metals are covered.

When the system detects metal, it stops the shaft of the Goliath or Titan Plus machine. The response time is 40 milliseconds. This time is calculated so that the shaft stops before the metal piece reaches the cutting elements and causes damage.

Why is it critical?

When a metal piece enters the granulator, the chain does not end there. It is carried with the granulated material to the injection molding machine; it reaches the screw, the barrel, the hot runner and the mold. Replacing a cutting element in the granulator is costly, but the really expensive damage comes further down the line. We explain where metal gets into the line in our metal separation guide.

Fault reporting and resuming

When a detection occurs, the fault is shown on the text display of the control and signaled by an alarm lamp. Thanks to the double parting line, the cutting chamber is cleaned quickly and safely; after cleaning, production can resume immediately.

Version with location detection

The new version of the system also determines the position of the metal piece in the cutting chamber. The alarm reports exactly where the piece is; there is no need to search the chamber from end to end for cleaning.
