Goliath TWIN Plus is designed for granulating large parts and for high capacity. What sets it apart from the standard models is its twin cutting chamber and two rotor shafts. On the shafts there are seven pre-cutting elements; the cutting rollers are arranged beside them.
The twin-chamber design serves two purposes. The first is capacity: because the material is shared between two chambers, the hourly granulating output rises above that of the single-chamber models. The second is accepting large parts: the hopper mouth is wide, and large rejects arriving in one piece are gripped by the pre-cutting elements and fed into the cutting chambers.
Cleaning and color change
The housing has a double parting line. The cutting chamber can be opened quickly and safely; when the chamber has to be cleaned completely at a color or material change, this split markedly shortens the time. For where residue comes from at a color change, see our color and material change article.
Noise and blocking
The hopper is sound-insulated. The ABS system prevents the rotor from blocking: when the cutting chamber starts to jam, the system steps in and stops the shaft from locking.
Why slow speed?
High-speed blade mills break the material up by impact; this produces heat, noise and dust. The toothed roller design cuts the material at low speed. The result is quieter operation, markedly less dust and a more uniform granule size. If you are going to return the granulated material to production, these three points are reflected directly in your part quality.
Life of the cutting elements
The combs, counter-combs and pre-cutters are designed to be reversible: when one face wears, it is removed and turned round so that its second face is used. In practice this doubles the life of the cutting elements. If you process abrasive material, a wear resistant coating option is available for the cutting elements.
