Magnetic Sweepers

A hand-carried magnetic tool; it collects metal fragments from the floor, prevents tire damage and work accidents and provides fast, safe cleaning.

Simple but with a high return

A handheld magnetic sweeper is nothing more than a long-handled magnet; by contrast, the cost of the problems it prevents is high. A screw dropped on the floor punctures a forklift tire, a piece of wire pierces a shoe, swarf is carried into a sensitive assembly area. The sweeper cuts this chain at its cheapest point.

Handheld or machine?

The deciding factors are the size of the area and how often it is used. For small workshops, spot cleaning, under machines and narrow passages a handheld sweeper is sufficient; for large warehouse and site areas scanned every day, a wheeled sweeper machine is more efficient. The advantage of the handheld type is that it reaches places the machine cannot get into.

Notes on use

• The magnet must be held very close to the floor; even a distance of a few centimeters markedly reduces the holding force on small particles
• As the collected metal builds up, its capacity to hold new particles decreases; interim emptying is needed
• Models with a release lever make emptying the collected metal into a bin much more practical than scraping it off by hand
• Effectiveness drops on carpet and rough floors; it is most efficient on smooth concrete and epoxy floors

Handle length and ergonomics

The handle length should allow the operator to work without bending down; a sweeper with a short handle does not get used regularly. Models with telescopic handles adapt to users of different heights. The magnet width, in turn, determines the scanning speed — narrow models are preferred for narrow passages and wide ones for open areas.
