MENSINK MagneticsMagnetic hand tools are flexible, portable devices that use permanent or electromagnetic force to hold, lift, clean or position metal objects. In construction, metalworking, recycling and maintenance they provide safety and efficiency by reducing physical effort and the risk of contamination. They are used in workshops, production plants, building sites and maintenance departments for lifting, cleaning, inspection and positioning work.
| Group | What it does | Products |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning | Collects metal debris from floors and surfaces | Magnetic sweeper, sweeping machine, magnetic mat |
| Holding and positioning | Holds the part at a fixed angle and frees the hands | Welding magnet, concrete formwork magnet |
| Inspection | Manually checks for the presence of metal in raw material or product | Inspection bar |
| Demagnetization | Removes the residual magnetism left after machining | Demagnetizer |
What these products have in common is that the cost of the problem they prevent is far above their own cost. A screw on the floor bursts a forklift tire; a piece of metal mixed into the raw material damages the screw and the mold; a part left magnetized after machining misleads a measuring instrument. Magnetic hand tools are the cheapest link in that chain.
The great majority of hand tools use a permanent magnet: it needs no power, does not fail and is unaffected by a power cut. An electromagnet is preferred only in lifting applications where the load has to be released under control. On permanent magnet products the release is done by changing the direction of the magnetic field with a lever.
For the differences between the magnet materials see the permanent magnets page, and for metal separation on the production line the magnetic separators.
