Product Description and Technical Details

Because the MAG 14000 and grate bar magnets filter only ferritic components out of the material, the Michel Tube portfolio also includes an all-metal separator (Allmetallabscheider). This device detects all contaminants (ferritic or not) in the material and ejects them through a cyclone, electronically, by means of a flap mechanism.

An interesting combination arises here when the MAG 14000 is used together with the electronic separator. If the MAG 14000 is mounted ahead of the electronic metal separator, it catches all the ferritic components beforehand. The electronic magnetic separator is thus triggered less often and less good material is ejected along with them. When the MAG 14000 is opened, the ferritic components pass on to the electronic separator; the separator is triggered and ejects the foreign matter in one go — without wasting excess good material in the process.

Available in 6 different diameters (Ø 38.0 – Ø 65.0 mm) and also with a frame (Gestell) option.

The metals a magnetic separator cannot see

The MAG 14000 and grate bar magnets hold only ferromagnetic particles: iron, steel, cast iron. Aluminum, brass, copper and most stainless steels are not magnetic; they pass the magnet without being affected at all. If there is a risk of stainless debris in the plant — and granulator blades, screens and tube fragments are usually stainless — a magnetic separator alone is not enough.

How an all-metal separator works

Instead of a magnet, the device uses a detection coil. As the material passes through the coil, any conductive particle disturbs the field and the system detects it. At the moment of detection a cyclone or a flap comes into play and ejects only the contaminated portion from the line; production does not stop.

Using the two systems together

A correct installation includes both. The magnetic separator holds the great majority of ferrous particles cheaply and without maintenance; the all-metal separator catches the conductive particles that remain. Without magnetic protection the all-metal separator alarms constantly and throws away material unnecessarily.

Why this matters so much

A piece of metal that reaches the screw creates irreversible wear; the shot weight fluctuates and scrap increases. The subject is covered in the screw and barrel wear and metal separation guide articles.
