Octabin Lid

The seal-IT branded OctaCap® Octabin Lid is a foldable octabin lid made of aluminum; it can be placed on an octabin within a few seconds. The lid weighs under 10 kg and is available for different octabin sizes.

The side folded edges (Abkantungen) give mechanical stability to the lid and the octabin and offer the possibility of attaching a material card to it.

The lid's main benefit is that it protects the material against contamination. It also makes it harder for the material to take up moisture unnecessarily. The holes in the lid can be freely configured with a cover, a sight glass or a suction lance port. This stabilizes the suction process — because the suction lance can move vertically — and ultimately provides cost savings by preventing contamination and machine stoppages.

The three problems of an open octabin

The octabin is the most common transport and storage container for plastic granulate. Used without a lid, three problems arise: the raw material draws moisture from the air (which makes the drying pointless with hygroscopic materials), dust and foreign matter from the surroundings get in, and irregular air ingress during suction unsettles the conveying.

What OctaCap does

The foldable aluminum lid is placed on the octabin in a few seconds. Its weight of under 10 kg allows it to be carried and positioned by one person; it fits different octabin sizes. Because the suction lance passes through the lid, the container stays closed throughout production.

The gain on the moisture side

Keeping dried raw material waiting in an open container undoes most of the drying. With hygroscopic materials such as PA, PC and PET the granulate starts to pick up moisture within minutes. Use together

A suitable suction lance and hose connection are needed together with the lid. The position of the lance and the false air balance are as important as the lid for the suction to work properly.
