In slow-flowing or sticky powders the magnets rotate to prevent bridging; this provides continuous, blockage-free and highly efficient separation. It is ideal for products that are difficult to flow.
The best-known problem of fixed-rod separators is bridge formation between the rods with sticky or clumping material. The material stops flowing and the line stops. In the rotating separator the rod assembly is constantly moving; this movement breaks the bridge and keeps the flow going.
The rotating rods also let the material be in contact with the magnetic field for longer and over more surface. Whereas in a fixed rod assembly a particle passing quickly through the center of the flow can escape, in the rotating design the likelihood of the same particle passing through the field increases.
Damp granulate, fine powder, recycling regrind, mixtures containing fibrous or oily additives. The common factor is material that does not flow freely. With dry, free-flowing granulate a drawer separator is both more economical and sufficient.
Because it contains moving parts, it needs maintenance compared with the fixed types: the drive, bearings and seals need periodic checks. The investment cost is also higher. For this reason the rotating design should be adopted only if a flow problem is genuinely being experienced.
Because it contains moving parts, it needs periodic checks compared with the fixed types: the drive mechanism, bearings and sealing elements should be included in the maintenance plan. The rotation speed affects the capture rate; when the material changes, the speed may need to be reassessed.
