Drum Magnet

A rotating magnetic drum fitted inside a housing; it separates ferrous particles continuously and removes them automatically from the product flow. For high-capacity continuous processes.

Continuous and automatic separation

A drum magnet works by placing a fixed magnet assembly inside a rotating cylinder. The material is fed onto the drum; while the non-magnetic part falls freely under gravity, the iron-based particles stick to the drum surface and, as it rotates, are carried to the area where the magnetic field ends and released into a separate hopper.

No manual cleaning required

On most other separators the collected metal is removed by hand at intervals. On the drum this operation is part of the design; separation is continuous and automatic. On high-capacity lines that cannot be stopped, this is the decisive advantage.

Where it is used

Recycling plants, post-granulation lines, bulk material transfer points and flows with a high metal load. If the amount of metal is large, a drawer or grid type fills up too often; in this situation the drum is the only practical solution.

When choosing

• Drum diameter and width — directly proportional to capacity
• Speed — slow rotation lengthens the capture time, fast rotation increases capacity
• Field depth — with a thick material layer a strong field is needed to reach the bottom layer
• Feed arrangement — an even, thin spread of material onto the drum determines the capture rate

For flows carried on a belt, conveyor belt separators are more suitable.
