A single magnetic rod grid; it is placed in a hopper, pipe opening or bunker inlet. It is a simple, economical and effective iron separation solution.
A magnetic grid is a frame of magnet rods arranged in parallel. Most free-fall separators are in fact this grid fitted inside a housing. When supplied on its own, it can be mounted directly in an existing hopper opening, on top of a screen or in a custom-made channel.
A ready-made separator housing is manufactured for a specific line diameter and connection size. The grid, however, can be made to measure; where space is limited or the connection is non-standard, it becomes the only solution. The frame material, rod diameter, rod spacing and magnet type are determined according to the application.
Narrow spacing raises the capture rate but increases flow resistance; with damp and clumping material it creates a risk of bridging. Wide spacing eases the flow but lets fine particles escape. The right value is chosen according to the flowability of the material — narrow for dry granulate, wide for damp or fibrous material.
With standard grids the collected metal is scraped off by hand, and during this operation it is important that the particles do not fall back into the flow. Easy-Clean designs move the rods inside a sleeve so that the metal is left away from the magnet; on lines that need frequent cleaning they shorten the time markedly.
