Stainless steel round tubes with a specially smoothed internal weld are used as conveying tubes in the bulk material and plastics industries. Michel Tube tubes are mostly supplied packed, with a ground outer surface and ready to install. This means the tubes can be installed as soon as they arrive on site; installation time and labor cost are reduced.
The standard length is 6000 mm, and they are available in an outside diameter range of 38.0 mm – 168.3 mm and in wall thicknesses of 1.5 / 2.0 / 3.0 mm. There are 27 different size/thickness combinations in total — for details see the "Sizes and Product Codes" tab.
A stainless tube is the standard choice because it covers three things at once on a conveying line: it resists corrosion, its inner surface stays smooth and it is mechanically robust. That the internal weld is specially smoothed is critical here — even the smallest protrusion left on the weld seam causes the granulate to catch, and over time build-up and wear begin at that point.
With glass fiber, mineral filled or hard granulate even a stainless tube wears. Wear is slow on a straight run and fast at the elbows; the material strikes the tube wall as it changes direction. With this type of raw material, wear-resistant tube is used for straight runs and wear-resistant elbows for turns.
The tubes are supplied ready to install, with a ground outer surface. When the line is built, the tube ends must be in line and no step may form at the connection point; a step creates both a pressure loss and a build-up point. Pipe connectors are used for connecting, and mounting rails for suspension and fixing.
