45° Branch Y-Connection - Stainless Steel

The 45° branch connection is the most frequently used option among the branch geometries. The joint between the arm and the main tube is completed by laser welding without leaving a step on the inner surface — this is decisive for the flow to advance smoothly.

The 45° Branch Y-Connection is used to add a side line to the main conveying line at a 45° angle — it provides a smoother (lower turbulence) transition than a right-angled T-piece. The main line and the side line are produced in the same diameter. The available diameter range is Ø 38.0 – Ø 114.3 mm, and the wall thickness 1.5 / 2.0 mm. The balance between Y and T

The 45° branch connection offers a middle way between the narrow-angle Y-piece and the 90° T-piece. It does not need as much space as a Y, and does not create as much wear and pressure loss as a T. If the line route does not allow a Y-piece but the wear a T would bring is unacceptable, this is the right choice.

The angle–wear relationship

The larger the branch angle, the harder the material strikes the wall. An approximate ranking is as follows: a 30° branch connection produces the least wear load, 45° a medium one and a 90° T the highest. The pressure loss follows the same order. That is why the smallest possible angle is the aim in line design; 45° is the compromise used most often in practice.

Mounting orientation

The arm must face the direction of flow. A 45° part connected the wrong way round loses its advantage completely and behaves worse than a T-piece: the material strikes the opposite surface at a sharp angle.

Material selection

For standard granulate stainless is sufficient. With glass fiber and mineral filled raw material, the branch points are the fastest wearing areas of the line; in this case a wear-resistant body should be preferred. All the branch geometries and sizes are on the pipe fittings page.
