Product Description and Technical Details

A reducer joins tubes of two different diameters and changes the flow speed. How smooth the conical transition is shows up directly in performance here: laser-welded production leaves no step on the inner surface along the change of diameter.

The reducer is the cone/adapter part used to connect tubes of two different diameters (a transition from a large diameter to a small one). The available diameter range is Ø 38.0 – Ø 114.3 mm, and the wall thickness 1.5 / 2.0 mm. For a specific diameter combination (Ø1 → Ø2) please contact us — it may vary depending on stock.

What a reducer changes

A reducer changes the tube diameter; this seemingly simple operation directly affects how the line conveys. When the diameter narrows, the flow speed rises at the same air flow rate, and when the diameter widens the speed falls. The conveying speed, in turn, is a problem at both ends: if it is too low the material settles on the bottom of the tube and blockage begins, and if it is too high wear and angel hair (fine filaments formed by friction) appear.

Where it is used

  • Stepping down from the large diameter line leaving the vacuum source to the machine connection
  • Joining two line sections produced in different diameters
  • Matching filter, pump and separator connection ports

The positioning rule

A reducer must not be positioned immediately after an elbow. At the elbow outlet the flow is already irregular; a change of diameter immediately afterwards increases that irregularity and creates a build-up and wear point. Leaving a straight distance of a few tube diameters between the elbow and the reducer is good practice.

Material selection

A stainless reducer is used in standard applications. With abrasive raw material — glass fiber, mineral filled — wear also accelerates because the speed rises at the narrowing; at this point a wear-resistant reducer should be preferred.
