Y-Piece - Stainless Steel

A Y-piece splits the conveying line into two branches or joins two lines into one. Laser-welded production is particularly valuable here: with no weld protrusion left on the inner surface of the branch point, the granulate passes without catching and wear is delayed.

The Y-Piece is a Y-shaped fitting used to join two separate conveying lines into one tube (or to split one line in two). All three ends are produced in the same diameter. The available diameters are in the Ø 38.0 – Ø 88.9 mm range, and the wall thickness 1.5 / 2.0 mm.

The Y-piece: the gentlest way to split the flow

A Y-piece splits the line in two or joins two lines. Its difference from a T-piece is that the branch angle is small; instead of making a sharp turn, the material changes direction at a gentle angle. This reduces both the pressure loss and the wear.

Why the angle matters so much

In pneumatic conveying the granulate is carried along inside the tube by the air stream. At a sharp branch the material strikes the wall and loses speed; part of the energy turns into heat and wear. The larger the branch angle, the more both wear and pressure loss increase. That is why a small-angle Y-piece is preferred wherever possible.

Connecting it the right way round

The orientation of the Y-piece is critical. The branch arm must face the direction of flow; a Y-piece connected the wrong way round confronts the material with a sharp obstacle, and a hole forms at that point in a short time. It is one of the most frequent mistakes in line installation.

Material

The laser-welded stainless construction makes it possible to produce thin, precise transitions; having no weld protrusion on the inner surface is decisive in terms of wear. For abrasive raw material a wear-resistant Y-piece should be used.
