Y-Piece - Wear-Resistant

The wear-resistant Y-piece protects the branch point on lines carrying glass fiber and mineral filled raw material. This series was developed because glass fittings cannot be produced economically in every size and customer-specific geometries are required.

The high surface hardness delays the granulate abrading and wearing through the wall. Because the branch angle is already small in the Y geometry, combined with the resistant body it gives the longest-lasting branch point on the line.

In places where glass parts cannot be used — routes with a risk of impact, assembly groups, points needing special sizes — this series provides the same wear protection as glass without the fragility.

The Y-Piece is a Y-shaped fitting used to join two separate conveying lines into one tube (or to split one line in two). The available diameter range is Ø 38.0 – Ø 88.9 mm, and the wall thickness 1.5 / 2.0 mm.

Why the branch point is the fastest wearing place

With abrasive raw material — glass fiber, mineral filled, hard granulate — what determines the life of the line is not the straight tubes but the points where the flow changes direction. The granulate strikes the wall here and loses energy, and every impact tears some material off the surface.

The Y-piece is the option among the branch geometries that produces the lowest wear load; because the branch angle is small, the impact severity is low. On the other hand, with abrasive raw material even a standard stainless Y-piece wears through within months; that is why a wear-resistant body is necessary.

The insidious side of wearing through

A hole in a branch part usually goes unnoticed. The false air leaking in weakens the vacuum; the conveying capacity falls and the operator looks for the problem at the pump. In plants processing abrasive raw material, the wall thickness of the branch points should be checked periodically.

Orientation is critical

The branch arm must face the direction of flow. A Y-piece connected the wrong way round confronts the material with a sharp obstacle; even a wear-resistant body wears through quickly in that case.
