Product Description and Technical Details

The 90° corner connection is used at points where the line has to turn at a right angle and there is no room for a radiused elbow. Because of the sharp transition, inner surface quality is more important in this part than in the others; laser welding ensures the seam creates no additional obstacle to the flow.

The 90° Corner Connection (Winkel) is used for lines that need a sharp 90° change of direction in tight installation spaces. Unlike the bent (mandrel bending) elbows in the Pipe Elbows (Rohrbogen) category, this part is produced by laser cutting + laser welding and provides a short-legged, sharp-cornered transition. The available diameters are Ø 40.0 – Ø 76.1 mm, and the wall thickness 1.5 / 2.0 mm.

When a corner connection is needed

The 90° corner connection is used at points where the line changes direction at a right angle. Its difference from an elbow is that it forms not a radiused turn but a sharp corner; this is the solution that takes up the least space.

The price of the space saving is paid on the flow side: the material experiences a hard impact at the corner, loses speed, and part of the energy turns into wear.

Where it is unavoidable

Passages at the foot of a wall, around columns and cramped routes under the ceiling. At these points a radiused elbow physically does not fit.

What should be done in terms of wear

  • Wherever possible a radiused elbow should be preferred to a corner; the difference in wear is marked
  • If a corner is to be used, a wear-resistant body is essential with abrasive raw material
  • The first straight section after the corner should also be monitored, as the flow continues to advance pressed against the wall
  • Two corners must not be connected directly in succession; a straight distance should be left between them

Pressure loss

Every sharp turn takes some of the pump's effective capacity. On long lines, as the number of corners rises the draw at the end point weakens; in line design, reducing the number of turns is a more effective solution than enlarging the equipment.

For radiused alternatives you can look at the pipe elbows page.
