Fixed Displacement Pumps
Internal gear and gear pumps that deliver a fixed volume per revolution.
A fixed displacement pump delivers the same volume with every revolution; the only way to change flow is to change the speed. On servo-driven machines that is enough — the servo motor speed already follows demand, so the pump itself does not need to be adjustable.
Internal gear types (Bosch Rexroth PGH, Voith IPV/IPN) run quietly and with low pressure pulsation. Because the design is simple, the failure rate is low; the most common problem is efficiency loss caused by wear.
That efficiency loss does not arrive suddenly. It first shows up as a few seconds added to the cycle time; noise and temperature rise come later. Logging cycle time gives you the early warning.

Is it time to replace?
- Cycle time lengthening step by step, pressure building late
- A howl or metallic noise from the pump — a sign of cavitation
- Rising oil temperature
- Air bubbles in the suction line, foaming in the tank
