Variable Displacement Pumps
Axial piston pumps that set flow by changing the angle of the swash plate.
A variable displacement pump sets the volume it delivers per revolution by changing the angle of the swash plate. Even at constant speed it can build the flow and pressure the process requires; because surplus oil is not sent back through a relief valve, energy loss is noticeably lower.
Some of the pumps in this list are not pumps on their own but units supplied together with their control electronics. When ordering, state whether you need the pump itself or the complete unit with its control — the same housing exists in different control versions.
In a failure the most common symptom is that flow will not build despite the setting. The cause may be the pump, but it may equally be the control valve that drives the swash plate or the feedback sensor; which one is at fault must be established before anything is replaced.

Is it time to replace?
- Flow or pressure not responding although the setting was changed
- Delay in pressure build-up, fluctuation between steps
- Irregular noise and vibration from the pump
- A pump feedback fault warning on the control
- Rising oil temperature — increased internal leakage
