Mold Dehumidification Systems
When the temperature of the mold surface falls below the dew point of the ambient air, the moisture in the air condenses on the mold surface. In the field this is called mold sweating. Especially in the summer months, on molds working with cold water, water droplets form both on the mold surface and on the part.
Why is sweating a problem?
- The condensed water leaves a surface defect and moisture streaks on the part.
- The mold and the mold components corrode.
- If the mold water is heated to prevent sweating, the cooling time gets longer; the cycle time lengthens instead of shortening.
The solution: a dry climate around the mold
The dehumidification unit treats the mold area as an enclosed space. The warm and humid air in the mold area is drawn into the unit, its moisture is removed and it is returned to the mold area as dry air. The air circulates in a closed loop. The mold water can therefore be kept at a low temperature and no sweating occurs.
Blue Air DMS units remove the moisture without using cooling water, with their own cooling circuit; a pre-cooler is not needed either. Because the enclosure surrounding the mold area is made with a sliding cover or quickly removable panels, the mold change is not slowed down.

Dehumidification has to be considered together with the mold temperature control units that determine the temperature of the mold water: the temperature control unit keeps the mold cold, and dehumidification prevents sweating at that temperature.
