The highest capacity model in the range: 3,210 kg/h, 8 components and a batch weight of 25 kg.
At this scale the blender is one of the main components determining the capacity of the line. Typical fields of use are extrusion lines, compound production and large multi-machine plants.
A batch weight of 25 kg keeps the system from having to prepare batches continuously at a high consumption rate. As the batch grows, the weighing accuracy of low-ratio additives improves as well — measuring a very small amount within a small batch means approaching the resolution limit.
The selection has to be made according to the peak consumption of the line. If the scenario in which all lines run at the same time is not taken as the basis, the blender becomes a bottleneck and limits the speed of the whole line.
Excess capacity, on the other hand, increases both the investment and the batch preparation time. The right value is a margin slightly above the peak consumption.
At this level of consumption the raw material is the dominant item of the total part cost. Even a one percent deviation in the masterbatch ratio corresponds to a serious amount on an annual basis. The saving a gravimetric system provides is, at this scale, one of the fastest paying investments.
A system with a large body requires access space around it for filling, calibration and cleaning. This space has to be left when the layout plan is prepared; the chamber filling height and the route of the feed line should also be assessed together.
Planned maintenance is particularly important at this scale: downtime affects not a single machine but the whole line.
The shared features of the series — ±0.01% weighing accuracy, the EasyClean tool-free dismantling design, touch control and consumption reporting — and why gravimetric dosing saves money compared with volumetric systems are explained in detail on the gravimetric dosing page. For the lower capacities you can look at the FGB10 and FGB5 series.
At this scale the installation requires more than putting the unit in place. The chamber filling height, calibration access, the cleaning area and the feed route running from the blender to the line have to be planned together.
At high consumption the chambers cannot be filled manually; the raw material feed is integrated with the central conveying system. When the system is commissioned, a separate period has to be set aside for the recipe definitions and the component calibrations. The seven steps of commissioning and the load cell ranges by model are tabulated in the commissioning section of the guide.
