GRAVIMIX FGB5 — 1,100 kg/h, 8 Components

The entry model of the FGB series: 1,100 kg/h capacity, recipes of up to 8 components and a batch weight of 5.7 kg.

Batch blender: the point where the dosing logic changes

Machine-mounted units dose the material directly into the hopper of the machine. The FGB series, on the other hand, first prepares a batch of the mixture, weighs it, blends it and then feeds it. This difference becomes decisive as the capacity scales up.

Working on a batch basis has two advantages: the homogeneity of the mixture is more stable, because there is a separate blending step after weighing; and consumption reporting can be kept on a batch basis — how much material each recipe uses goes straight into the record.

What the batch weight determines

The batch weight of 5.7 kg is the amount of mixture prepared at one time. This value is assessed together with the consumption rate of the line: if the line is fast and the batch is small, the system runs continuously; if the batch is large, there may be a wait until the mixture is prepared.

With low-ratio additives the batch weight also affects accuracy — weighing a very small amount of additive within a small batch approaches the limit of the measurement resolution.

Eight components

At this capacity the recipes usually become more complex: the main material, regrind, more than one masterbatch, filler and additives. A capacity of eight components provides this flexibility; but an unused chamber means a cleaning and maintenance load — it should be selected according to the requirement.

Layout

Central blenders take up more space than machine-mounted units and require access space around them for filling, calibration and cleaning. This has to be planned at the installation stage.

GRAVIMIX technology

The shared features of the series — ±0.01% weighing accuracy, the EasyClean tool-free dismantling design, touch control and consumption reporting — and why gravimetric dosing saves money compared with volumetric systems are explained in detail on the gravimetric dosing units page. For the opportunity to test GRAVIMIX free of charge on your own line before buying, you can contact us.

For a higher capacity you can look at the FGB10 and FGB25 series, and for machine-mounted solutions at the MECS series.

Layout and feeding

Unlike machine-mounted units, batch blenders require a separate floor area. When planning, the chamber filling height, calibration access and the clearance needed for cleaning have to be considered together.

The length of the line running from the blender to the machine also matters: while the prepared mixture is conveyed over a long line, components of different densities can separate again. The line should be kept as short as possible and vertical drops should be avoided. When setting the blending time and the mixer mode, the difference between the four mixer modes in the user guide is a guide.
